The Prospects by Sports Illustrated Internship Program

Now accepting applications for roles in Sports Media, Sports Marketing, Event Management and Journalism.

Jacob Crisp is one of the best skating defenders of this year’s 2005-born prospects. He is an exceptionally smooth skater that can easily create his own space and traffic. Jacob’s speed and agility allow him to effortlessly escape pressure. While he uses his strong skating, he could learn to leverage his speed more. Crisp has said himself that he wants to get better in 1 on 1 situations as he plays aggressively, but due to his size, one on one battles are not his strongest point. Jacob also has a high hockey sense and impressive puck skills. His wrist shot and passes are already powerful, and rumor has it, he has the hardest snap penetrating passes of anyone in the age group. Crisp can sneak shots through to the net from most areas and his wrist shots are especially dangerous as they come in fast and are difficult to prepare for. Jacob is working hard to improve his defensive zone coverage and although he does not have the largest stature, he plays big; he invites contact and is quite aggressive. Crisp is a solid offensive defenseman and with the right development, he will likely turn into a dynamic two-way defender ready to compete in the OHL.
