Power forward, Matthew Wang, was a top player last season in London, and is continuing that success this year in Oakville. Wang is a strong winger that can also play as an athletic center. Matthew has standout puck protection skills, and he is one of the best players in his age group that is able to effectively hang onto pucks in traffic. Matthew is a tall and physical forward that excels around the net, his stride and large stature allow him to drive the net with speed and no fear. Wang is aggressive and is a physical player when he needs to be. Matthew has strong 1 on 1 skills and is great in both ends of the ice, supporting his teammates. Wang will need to work on his skills without the puck, like reading plays and getting open. If Matthew is able to read plays ahead of time and grasp that understanding, it would add a new element to his game and put him ahead of many of his competitors. Being such a strong forward with adequate puck skills at this age is a good sign and if Wang can continue in his development and focus on his exceptional individual skills and power, he should easily transition to the OHL level.
