After potting a whopping 63 goals and 35 assists in 73 games last season, right shooting forward, Ben Theron, was able to solidify himself as a top player and a selection for the GTHL all-star game. Comparable to a player like Brad Marchand, with a dash of David Pastrnak or Artemi Panarin, Theron is at his best when scoring goals. He is a smaller player that loves a physical style of game, while competing hard and trying to make things happen offensively. He has top notch IQ, and can make the right plays on the offensive and defensive end of things, helping make him a lethal goal scorer but also a reliable guy in the defensive zone. As of right now, Theron has utilized the COVID-19 pandemic in a good way, using all of his extra time to train. His biggest aspect to improve has been his skating and acceleration, which he has been working on by doing lots of hill runs. He has also been working on his strength and shot, to add to his already elite goal scoring ability. With the 2022 OHL draft coming up soon, scouts will start to look at Theron closely. Theron could easily make a case for the earlier rounds due to his natural goal scoring ability, where in the OHL, he could remain a scoring winger that can be reliable in every situation. 98 points in 73 games is a certainly impressive stat which will only make Theron’s draft stock higher, and will help himself as a must watch player as the draft gets close, as he could prove to be a can’t miss talent for an OHL club.
