Birk Cassels is one of the Blue Jacket’s backbone players. This left catching goalies biggest strength truly lies in his play in his net. Cassels is very sound with his positioning, and takes advantage of his larger frame to cover the angles well, a spot where he seems to stop the puck the best. Cassels is seemingly always half a step ahead of everyone else, and is very good at anticipating plays as they unfold. Cassels has a very high compete level, and can be seen fighting for the puck in his crease and will track it like a hound. Cassels has the typical goalie personality, he is very quiet and likes to prepare himself for games alone for a few hours before every game. Such as most goalies, Cassels could work more on his puck handling ability, helping convert defense into offense for his teammates. Cassels could serve as a solid acquisition for a team, however it is unknown where he could be picked as this draft seems to be full of high end goaltenders, so he is certainly in for some competition moving forward. As long as he works on his skills further, Cassels could develop into an OHL grade goaltender.
