A lethal, offensively minded defenseman, Brodie McConnell-Barker has his sights set on the OHL, and is projected to be a top pick. Compared to defensemen like Cale Makar or Erik Karlsson, McConnell-Barker brings the explosive skating required to be a top notch offensive player, while also bringing the offensive prowess and skill to back it up. McConnell-Barker is an extremely unselfish player, and will always look to set up his teammates, and is ultra competitive, normally pushing himself against the top players in the league. Though McConnell-Barker loves jumping into the play and creating offense, defense comes first for him, so he is also a very effective member of the team in the defensive end as well. McConnell-Barker brings amazing versatility to his game as well, as for about three years he actually played as a forward, before switching back to defense in order to help the team become a more competitive, top-tier team. McConnell-Barker has a very team first mentality, and while he loves to keep the energy up and stay positive, he believes that you win and lose as a team.McConnell-Barker wears a letter for his squad, and with this he works to cheer his teammates up, and takes on the natural role of a team leader. As of now, McConnell-Barker is working hard to become one of the top OHL prospects, and this is through him working on the small things, such as being vocal, keeping his head up, good stick on puck play, making moves, and puck protection skills, all of which will help add up to a solid player. With the 2022 OHL draft nearing, McConnell-Barker is excited at the prospect that he will get to play with or against his older brother, Bryce, who currently plays with the Soo Greyhounds. McConnell-Barker is willing to play whichever position his coach needs him to, and would be honoured to be selected by any of the OHL teams. At the OHL level, McConnell-Barker could step in either right away, or a year out, where he could be developed into a top OHL defenseman that can dominate in the two-way game, while also punishing his opponents offensively with his high speed and skill.
