A top ETA prospect, John McKinney is a star two-way center capable of catching your eye on both ends of the ice. His rare combination of speed, strength and smarts allows him to be a dynamic talent in all three zones of the ice. In the offensive zone he finds soft spots in the defence and either puts the puck on a teammates stick or gets there. He has evasive hands and speed to cycle the puck around the zone and open up passing lanes. John forechecks very hard and will do everything in his power to get the puck back for his team. This work ethic transitions into his own zone as well however. John sacrifices his body in his own zone. Whether it be getting down to block a shot or getting to the dirty areas and using his strength to outwork opponents he’s always helping his team. He uses his high hockey IQ to read developing plays and seemingly always be in the right spot at the right time. These two-way capabilities are a big reason as to why he is on the ice late in a game no matter the situation. Whether it's a big time face off, important shut down in the defensive zone or need for a quick goal, you can bet John will be on the ice. John McKinney is a name you need to remember as he just keeps getting better and should one day develop into an effective two-way center at the next level.
