A complete package of a goaltender, Pickering native Nate Gillis is one goalie that OHL teams should be focused on for the 2022 OHL draft. Standing at an imposing 6’1, Gillis is an intimidating presence between the pipes who towers over his opponents and helps him take up most of the net, cutting down shooting angles. Gillis sports a very calm demeanor and is capable of making very smooth lateral moves to get to where he needs to be to make the next big save. Gillis brings a solid glove, which he flashes easily to snag a puck, while also having a very solid stick handling ability and great rebound control, making him a staple in the Waxers crease for the past few seasons. Gillis is an extremely focused and hardworking player, putting in the extra dry land training with his conditioning coach, as well as working with his coaches at Armour Goaltending. Gillis is a popular player amongst his players due to his sense of humour and ability to keep things very light hearted in the room before and after the games, and is always able to get a good laugh. Gillis also likes to dabble in his personal fashion, taking a great interest in how his gear looks, wanting things to look as good as he performs. He is also very particular with his sticks, and takes his time to make sure it comes out perfectly. As of now, Gillis is looking to play for his highschool team, Neil McNeil High, as their potential starter as well. Overall, Nate Gillis should be a goalie who appears frequently in many scouting reports as the season progresses, as he could possibly become the future goalie of an OHL team due to his hardworking nature and already good skill set.
