Peterborough's top defenseman, right shooting Owen Hickey has tons of upside. Hickey is a defenseman who is excellent in the skating department, utilizing it to help him in any situation. Hickey has a very high hockey IQ, and is capable of making a great first pass in breakout scenarios. Hickey is also great at skating the puck out of danger himself, and is very reliable in his own zone of the ice, regardless of the situation at hand. One of the biggest things that Hickey was challenged to improve on over the summer was his offensive game, and he delivered. His hands got better, and his confidence got higher when crossing the blue line with the puck. His shot also improved greatly coming into the pandemic season, which was probably part of his game that he was challenged to improve on the most. Sadly, due to the lockdown season, Hickey has not been able to display his skills in a proper game, which leaves many curious as to what he can actually do against another team. Overall, Hickey is looking like a high end defenseman that is capable of improving on his game a ton when challenged to do so. Hickey could really use this to his advantage coming into his draft year, and could really put on a show for the scouts.
