Phil Roberto is a stay-at-home defender that hits hard and is very reliable. Starting in his own zone, Phil is an agitator who loves to deliver big hits and get under the opponent's skin. He is tough to play against as he physically dominates other players his age and is a Getty player in general. He loves to get in shooting lanes and block shots for his team as well as break up opponents' plays. With the puck in his own zone, Phil is hesitant to skate up with the puck as he is defensive-minded however he does have the skill to skate with it when needed, his first pass is strong and makes for clean breakouts. Phil is still developing his offensive side to his game, he has a powerful shot stemming from his strength and can pass the puck well however he is careful with it and doesn’t risk turning it over. He often says away from pinching and instead covers for his partner and stays back. This works very well on his team as they’re very offensive-minded but he stays back to stay safe and bail out his partner. A lot of his skill comes from his high IQ. When facing one on one situations and odd-man rushes he is smart to know when to play the body and when to isolate a player. Phil is a great penalty killer and is a player that can be trusted to shut down opponents and keep a lead. As Phil develops he has the potential to be a true shut down defensive defender at the next level.
