A defenceman with great size and skill, Hunter Martell is packed with potential. Martell has shown signs of greatness in the past but has struggled with keeping these stellar performances consistent. Martell is a solid skater, able to move well with and without the puck. Martell moves with a great sense of evasiveness, always moving with a purpose. Martell is able to make tough cuts while skating and can make quick adjustments on the back check. Martell has good vision, able to make heads up plays when moving the puck in transition and make clean stretch passes when moving out of the defensive zone. Martell has decent speed for a defenceman but still needs to find that next gear to push himself to the next level. With his strong frame Martell is no pushover, able to assert his dominance over opposing players with heavy hits and checks in the defensive zone. Martell is a great athlete but also has strong fundamental skills to go along with his natural athleticism. Martell has a fantastic shot, able to stay patient while walking the blue line before firing off a shot through traffic on the net. Martell has areas to improve upon as his career continues but if he is able to find consistency within his game, Hunter Martell could develop into a great blueliner in the future.
