Playing a year up is a rare feat in the GTHL but playing a year up and performing at a consistent pace while producing offence is something else entirely. Marco Mignosa was one of the few 2021 OHL Draft eligible players to play at the U16 AAA level during the 2019-2020 season. Mignosa has been playing with teams a year older than him for years now and for good reason. Mignosa was able to not only play but also be a productive player a year up because of his confidence and Hockey IQ. Mignosa knows where to be at all times and how to be an effective presence. He has a knack for finding himself in scoring positions as if he has a sixth sense.
Mignosa possesses excellent speed and a great first step that helps him drive to the net and get in a scoring position before defenders have a chance to catch him. Mignosa is a dangerous presence in front of the net. He had great hand-eye coordination and can deflect airborne pucks past goaltenders. Mignosa also has a quick release which allows him to capitalize on the rush once he gets the puck on his stick.
An aspect of Marco Mignosa’s game that stands out is his puck-handling abilities. Mignosa is a creative player and is capable of carefully maneuvering the puck at high-speeds to get past opposing players. His long stick reach helps him keep control of the puck and pull it back to keep it out of the reach of attackers.
Mignosa is expected to be one of the top scorers in the GTHL this year. Having already spent a year playing at the U16 level as a 14-15 year old, Mignosa is poised to start the season off one step ahead of those around him.
