A blue-liner who has no trouble finding the back of the net, Olivier Savard is surely on many teams radars. Savard is an offensive defenceman who has quickly emerged as a potential top-60 pick for the upcoming OHL draft. Savard had previously played in the QBAAA R with the Montreal Nationals before moving to the GTHL. It was with Montreal where he began to emerge as one of the better 2005 goal-scoring defenders. Savard plays a fast paced game and can get the puck off of his stick quickly. His release is quick and above average amongst 2005 born defenseman in the GTHL. While the Montreal native is strong in the offensive zone, he is a reliable defensive presence and always makes sure to stay back when the puck is not yet controlled in the offensive zone. He doesn’t force shots or force plays that have a high risk of resuming in turnovers. His shots typically come on the rush or from the point while cycling the puck. Size is no issue for Savard who stands at 6’1 and weights 176 lbs. The right handed defenceman uses his size to his advantage in his own zone. to outmuscle attackers and use his body and stick reach to take away space. Savard will be an interesting name to keep an eye on. He could end up sleeping to go play in the U.S. however if he does decide to play in the OHL, he will try to bring the goals with him.
