An offensive defender with loads of potential, Alex Simioni has OHL caliber offensive tools and is a player to watch for. Starting in the offensive zone, Alex has a top tier shot that's booming from the point and ultimately dangerous from anywhere on the ice. From the blueline he cycles the puck well and high hockey IQ to create room for his teammates for easy goals. He reads situations well and knows when to pinch and when to drop back and defend. He is an above average skater both frontwards and backwards and is very quick both ways. He uses body positioning to defend well in his own zone, he is smart and battles in front of his net and in corners winning not because of physicality but instead using high hockey IQ and body positioning. With the puck in his own end he uses his speed and stickhandling ability to get it out himself or makes crisp passes to a breaking out forward. He rarely gives the puck up in transition and joins the rush rather frequently as a backdoor option. Alex plays on his teams power play and penalty kill and is very effective on both. As he gets stronger and develops his defensive game, Alex looks to be a solid offensive defender at the next level.
