A hard working and competitive centreman, Andrew Hopley brings some insane smarts to his game. Hopley is a player who relies greatly on his high hockey sense, which allows him to understand where everyone is at throughout the game, while being able to see plays unfold before they actually happen. Hopley possesses a high offensive ability, thanks to his quick hands and very accurate shot, allowing him to deke around his opponents and pick where he wants the puck to go. Thanks to his smarts with the puck, alongside his high composure, Hopley has landed the opportunity to man the powerplay. Currently, Hopley has been playing with Trinity College with the senior team, which is great experience for him with the 2022 OHL draft coming up, as he would be playing with older players. Hopley is currently working on understanding that sometimes less is more, as he does have a habit of trying to do too much in some situations. While this can sometimes be worrisome, it can be ironed out quite easily by his draft team. At the draft, Hopley could likely go in the middle to later rounds, though his IQ could help to make him a hidden gem, giving him a ton of upside. At the OHL level, Hopley could use his high IQ to make the right plays and help to set up his teammates with smart, well timed plays. Hopley could benefit greatly from bulking up a bit as well, as the OHL is a large league, and he only stands in at around 5’7. Overall, Hopley is a player that teams should be keeping their eyes on as draft day nears.
