Austin Baker is described as probably one of the best US born prospects that is eligible for the 2022 OHL draft. He has elite, game breaking speed and quickness, and when coupled with his laser of a wrist shot, can be an offensive juggernaut. Baker is one of those players who is capable of making everyone around him a better player, and is an aficionado on the power play. Baker is a confident and hard working player, however, he is also extremely humble and respectful, both excellent traits to have given his skill set. One of the things Baker needs to work on the most is simply finding newer ways to score. As previously mentioned, he packs a very solid and effective shot, however utilizing other moves like tipping the puck or trying to deke are recommended for him to work on, as well as changing the angles he shoots from, as the goalie talent is also getting better with him, so his creativity will need to be utilized more. Overall, Baker could project out as an OHL scoring center, and could be utilized as a power play player, while using his great speed to burn the opposing players. Baker could easily get himself in the conversation for the first round, and is expected to go somewhere in the earlier rounds. If any team wants a speedy goal scorer, Baker is a player that should be looked at for sure.
