A few years removed from his 98 point, 63 goal season, which landed him a spot in the GTHL All-star game, Ben Theron has since taken his talents east to the SCTA, where he is amongst the leading scorers on his team. Theron takes advantage of his compact stature, which has helped him become someone who relies heavily on his ability to go to the hairy areas of the ice and grind away in the corners. Theron is a big fan of making hits, and is frequently seen going hard into the corners and hanging around the net front area. Despite playing a very heavy style of hockey, Theron also displays a very solid hockey IQ and processes good hands, which allows him to make extremely smart plays, whether it’s making a great pass or taking advantage of screens when he’s shooting. Theron is at his best when he is shooting and playing physical, which makes him a very important player for his team, Theron also displays great patience and is more than capable of pickpocketing someone at the blue line before heading out towards open ice to make some space for himself. Theron is currently working on his strength and skating even further, but especially his physicality as that is where he feels he is the most effective. His physicality will also help him with his defensive play, as he is an extremely hard working player in all zones. With his OHL draft year coming up in 2022, Theron could see himself going in the higher rounds of the draft, where he could develop into a Zach Hyman type of player. Expect Theron to challenge for a roster spot earlier in his career, where he could slot in as a hard working winger who can help create opportunities for his team through his strength and physicality.
