Arguably the best all-around player of his age group, 2005’s top scorer, Calum Ritchie combines his above average awareness and established skill to improve everyone around him. He demonstrates natural leadership qualities, possesses high hockey sense and elite offensive ability, and he will only continue to improve with time. His vision in all zones allows him to make crisp tape to tape passes better than many other players in the age group. Ritchie can do it all on the offensive side; skate, shoot, score, and pass, but he can also fill in the skates of a top defender if he’s called into the position. It is rather rare to find a player of this age who is as offensively elite, but is also as defensively responsible as Ritchie; this demonstrates his strong commitment to the team game, rather than just his own individual stats. As a truly well-rounded and elite player, he is an ultimate AAA threat and is sure to be a serious competitor at the OHL level. In his development and as he continues to grow, he will become bigger, stronger, and faster. This highly skilled forward should have no issues transitioning and taking his game to the next level in the OHL. Whichever team Ritchie ends up with in 2021 is going to be receiving a player who is more than ready to make a swift transition into major junior, and potentially make an immediate impact. Ritchie is in top consideration to be the 1st overall pick in this year’s OHL Priority Selection draft.
