Illinois born winger, Drew Waterfield, is one of the few players on Shattuck St. Mary's looking to make strides in the future. This right shooting winger has been one of the most improved players on the squad since his arrival. After finishing out the 2019/20 season on Team Illinois, Waterfield would go on to join Shattuck St. Mary’s, where he would post an impressive 33 point campaign over 40 games, 9 of which were goals. In addition, Waterfield put up a very low number of penalty minutes, only tallying up 8 over the course of the season. Waterfield has grown a ton, and has been able to utilize his big frame, as well as long reach and good stick skills effectively. Despite this, Waterfield is encouraged to work on using his size more. He is already a strong skater, but he needs to start using his speed more consistently and go to the net. Overall, Waterfield has been working on every aspect of his game, which will help him as he gets closer to his OHL draft year, where he could find himself turning into a big winger who can hopefully play to his size a bit more. Only time will tell, but Waterfield could be yet another player that could find himself in draft discussions as 2022 gets closer.
