Amongst the top talents of the 2022 OHL draft, Luca Testa is cementing himself as a lock for the top 10. Coined as a “Bulldog,” Testa is essentially a swiss army knife in terms of how he plays, he provides it all. Not only is he a threat offensively, but he is also responsible in his own zone as well. Testa uses his large frame to his advantage and will throw his body weight around routinely during a game. Testa is dominant in the faceoff circle as well, making the smart move to shovel the puck back to his teammates and setting up the play from there. Offensively, Testa is gifted due to his high speed and agility, combined with great playmaking skills and a rocket of a shot. Testa is a player who is constantly looking for open ice when he is away from the puck, which attributes to his high hockey IQ, though his ability to know where everyone is at has also helped him build a strong IQ that separates him from the rest of the pack. Testa displays great leadership skills and can be seen directing his teammates for plays and leading them as a group on a frequent basis. Testa is deployed in various scenarios, manning the power play and spending time on the penalty kill. His ability to drive the play is incredible, which is more impressive due to the fact that he does everything at high speeds. He also brings great puck protection to his game. Due to his ultra-competitive nature, Testa tends to run up a lot of penalties, but as he reaches a game with bigger players, his penalties should drop substantially. As for the OHL, expect Testa to go somewhere in the top 10, where he could likely step into the OHL immediately and become a solid piece for any team. Projection-wise, Testa could very likely develop into a top OHLer providing he keeps developing like he has. The future is bright, this is not a player to be passed up on.
