A player with all the tools to make an impact at the next level, Luke Blenkhorn is a prospect to keep your eye on in the later rounds. Playing on a weaker team in Alliance hockey Luke has caught the attention of opposing teams in recent years as a player who is due for a breakout. Blenkhorn, a right shot defender, plays a physical two way game who does everything well, in his own zone he can usually be found battling for the puck in the corners or in front of the net battling for positioning. He never gets beat one on one, using his body to step into the forward and breaking up the opportunity. He blocks shots like no one else and isn’t afraid to throw a hit or body opponents off the puck, he rarely chases or scrambles in his own zone and remains poised with and without the puck. When he has the puck in his defensive end he often makes great breakout passes however he is still working on his north-south game as he is hesitant and frequently goes for the safe option to the side. In the offensive zone Luke has a great shot, it’s accurate and uses his strength to muster one of the harder shots in Alliance hockey, he also sees the ice well and makes great passes from the blue line. Luke plays on the first power play and penalty kill, being an effective member on each. Luke is expected to grow and will continue to fill out which will only help his physical play, watch for him to be a steal later on in the draft.
