Leadership is something that right handed centreman, Mason Benedict, knows well. Benedict serves as the Little Caesars captain, and to make it even better, it was through a vote by his team. Definitely a great thing when your teammates can all recognize the fact that you’re a good leader. Benedict is an extremely aggressive skater, and moves fast, while also being a very hard worker. He has good stickhandling and passing, as well as a pretty good shot, and is fantastic at taking draws. Academically, Benedict is also a pretty good student as well. He is able to tell the difference between right and wrong, and won’t hesitate to tell someone when they are wrong. The biggest thing that he needs to work on is his IQ and decision making. During the late game, Benedict has been known to take retaliatory penalties when the team is up, which obviously isn’t good, but it’s definitely something that can be weeded out as he grows older and matures more. To continue on that point, a lot of that attitude stems from the fact that Benedict is ultra competitive, which is actually a good sign for a player. Every team loves someone who will bring their all every night. OHL wise, Benedict would probably be best suited at playing center, as he is great at taking draws and has the overall skill set of the basic centreman. Keep an eye out for Benedict over the next couple seasons, as he could be a prospect that gradually climbs up the rankings, especially if he has a good showing both this season and next season.
