One of the best skaters available for the 2022 OHL draft, Mason Strano’s skating ability is already OHL caliber. Strano is a big guy with a natural mean streak, but he also has a silkier side to his game. Strano has amazing defensive awareness and is capable of using his tremendous speed to come out of nowhere and pickpocket unsuspecting puck carriers. Strano plays like the prototypical power forward, he’s physical and he battles hard. Strano has a will to win and overall just a natural ability to play in general. Though Strano has a dominant skill set, he does not score as much as he should. Due to his more conservative and defensive approach, Strano tends to hold himself back from what he can do. While he doesn’t possess the same puck skills some others may, he has a blistering shot, which when coupled with his speed, would make him lethal. For Strano, it’s really about finding that game and realizing the impact he can have if he uses his skills to their full potential, which he has been encouraged to aim for in the future. Despite this, Strano has actually played some games in the OJHL, where he has fit right in. If Strano is capable of finding his offensive game, the sky's the absolute limit for him. Strano serves as part of the teams leadership group as well, where he tends to be a more laid back guy with a great sense of humour, which keeps the team loose. At the draft, Strano will likely slip farther than he should due to his lower numbers, however this could turn him into a steal, as if his team can help him unlock his offensive game and can help him reach his potential, he could be a star winger in the OHL.
