Standing in at an opposing 6’2, 205 lbs, Nathan Schaap is best described as a big, solid defenseman. Though he is normally described as more of a highly physical, defensive defenseman, Schaap also displays a high offensive ability, leading all ETA defensemen in points on the season. This can best be attributed to his heavy shot, as well as his amazing on ice vision. As a person, Schaap acts more as a leader in the room, however he is also someone that both his teammates and the future PR team will love. Schaap has a very kind heart, and likes to workout and hangout with his friends, but what makes him stand out from the others is the fact that he likes to go out and work with the younger teams in the area as well. This mentality will make Schaap the type of player that his team will want to have out in the community. Being a big defenseman, Schaap is really working on his mobility, both in his overall skating and footwork, as he feels that will be what helps shoot him up to the next level. Once he has that sorted out, he is fully confident in his ability to make the OHL. With the 2022 draft approaching, expect Schaap to be amongst the top defenders to be drafted, where he could end up developing into a solid top 4 guy for his draft team. Schaap already featured on the top 50 prospects list in the honourable mentions section, so the scouts likely already know most of what there is to know about this young defenseman, and they would all know that Schaap will be a worthy draft selection moving forward.
