Reliable defenders make everyone on their team feel calm when they’re on the ice and this is the case when Owen Grey is out there for his Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs team. When Owen is on the ice his team knows that they have a defender who is calm and ready to do whatever it takes to win. In his own end Owen can be found jumping on rebounds and clearing them. He blocks shots and forces the play out of the slot. He minimizes high scoring chances against and stick checks the puck away from opponents. Owen will go into the corners to try and come up with the puck but has a high IQ and will also stay back to break up and develop plays. With the puck in his own zone he stays poised and won’t force a play and would rather swing back and wait for an open teammate then give it up. In high pressure situations he reads the play well and will chip the puck out instead of holding onto it for too long. His passing is accurate and in the offensive zone he utilizes this to cycle the puck around and dish out easy goals for his teammates. He has good stickhandling and doesn’t try to do too much. He is actively working at getting stronger and faster which will only turn him into a better hockey player. Owen Grey is quickly blossoming into a reliable 200 foot defender and should explode in his year before his draft.
