A top of the class defender, Rowan Topp is a very effective right shot two-way defender. Rowan, playing the top line for his team is excellent in all three zones and is overall a very strong defender with very few weaknesses. In his own zone he is very responsible and doesn’t chase the puck. He frequently blocks shots and wins puck battles in front of the net and in the corners. He uses his strength to body opponents off the puck and rarely gets beat one on one. When he has the puck in his own zone he remains calm and he’s not afraid to carry it out but also has the ability to dish out spectacular breakout passes. His skating is very smooth and quick and he uses this to join the rush or be a backdoor option. In the offensive zone he is very crafty with great hands. He walks the line well and opens space with and without the puck as he’s very smart. He cycles the puck well and picks apart opponents defenders. Rowan is smart enough to run faceoff plays on his own and execute them to perfection. He quarterbacks his teams powerplay and is a key part of his team's penalty kill as well. Rowan Topp is a name to watch for early in the draft and has the tools to be a key two way defender at the next level.
