A lanky right shot defenseman, Ty Gaudreault compares a bit to former OHLer Jamie Drysdale. While Gaudreault is currently working more on being able to create offensive chances for his team, he is a very reliable defenseman at the other end of the ice. Gaudreault displays excellent defensive positioning in his own zone, and will not shy away from making a hit along the boards or entering hard into a puck battle. This has led to Gaudreault being rather successful in his puck battles. Gaudreault is a very reliable player with the puck, who is both able to hold the line quite well and break the puck out well. Due to being a right hander, Gaudreault gets extra points towards his draft stock with right handed defensemen being a highly valuable piece for any OHL team to have, due to the overall rarity of a serviceable RHD. With the 2022 OHL draft coming up, Gaudreault will be looking to get his name into the mix. While he is working on his offensive output already, Gaudreault would also benefit from bulking up a bit more, which would help to make him a more effective defenseman in the corners. At the draft, Gaudreault could likely go in the middle to lower rounds, but he could very well turn out to be an OHL player if he continues to grow and improve over the next couple years, though his OHL debut could be a couple of years out yet.
