An underrated defenseman for the 2022 OHL draft, Tyler Laita has improved greatly since the last time the 2006 players had a full season. Laita is a super reliable defenseman, who does all the little things right. Laita brings an ultra competitive attitude to the rink every day, and is extremely coachable due to his hard working nature. Laita is capable of using his larger frame quite well, being able to chip away physically, while also blocking lots of shots for his squad. Laita has a strong shot, and is extremely patient, which allows him to make good set up plays and a great first pass out of the zone. That being said, Laita can benefit from a faster decision making process, as well as capitalizing on mistakes made by the other team. Laita could definitely benefit from bulking up more as well, making his hits harder and making it harder to match up against him in physical battles. With the draft coming up, Laita could likely go in the mid to lower rounds of the draft, mainly due to a lower point production than many of the other defensemen. However, passing on him can only go on for so long as Laita is a rising player and could become a solid prospect for any OHL team to draft. Laita has all the tools necessary to move on to the next level, so expect to see his name in the OHL in the coming years.
