A defender who broke out last year, Tyler McGuire is a player with the potential to turn heads at the next level. Putting up 20 PTS (3G-17A) with a plus/minus of +24 last year for his team playing on the first powerplay and penalty kill Tyler can do it all. In his own zone he is very smart, forcing opponents to the outside and not allowing opponents to get more then one opportunity to score. He protects the front of his net well and clears away rebounds. He battles hard in deep and blocks shots when he needs to. When he has the puck on his stick in his own end, he has all the tools to get it out quickly and efficiently. He makes clean breakout passes and possesses the skill and stickhandling ability to carry the puck out himself if needed. He rarely turns the puck over and when he does he is quick enough to get back and defend. He is finding another gear in speed which will only help him become a dominant puck moving defender as he has the hands and vision already. Offensively Tyler shines. He has a booming shot from the point and a killer one timer. He cycles the puck well and can run set plays from the top of the zone. He uses his stickhandling skills to move in the offensive zone and create room for himself and teammates. He is still learning how to make better decisions with and without the puck, he gets caught pinching at the wrong time and not pinching when he should however with more experience this problem will quickly fade away. As Tyler continues to grow into his body and use his strength more he has all the tools to be a special player at the next level.
