An Illinois born defenseman, right shooting William Tanny is a great defensive add. After joining the Shattuck St. Mary’s squad in 2020/21, Tanny would go on to put up a solid 16 points in 40 games. While these are great offensive numbers for a defenseman, Tanny is found most at home on the defensive side of the game. With him being fairly small for a defenseman, Tanny has made up for this downside with his positioning. He plays a very positionally sound game and understands the defensive end of the game very well. Along with this, Tanny has been impressive in his ability to take 1 vs 1 scenarios very well, and is able to remain calm in the heat of the play. Currently, Tanny is being encouraged to work on his offensive skills. This would include his shooting as well as stick and puck skills. Tanny is also working on his strength. Tanny is described as a very coachable player, which is always an aspect that potential future clubs could admire about him. Overall, if he remains on track, Tanny could end up developing into a very sound two way defenseman, or even just a solid defensive defenseman. Regardless, Tanny seems like he could be a great add for an OHL club in 2022, so keep an eye on him as he continues to improve.
