Despite missing parts of the season due to injury, Jr Gaels captain Thomas Elkins really stormed back with a 20 point regular season (10G 10A) and a massive 9 point playoffs. Despite his massive offensive presence in the playoffs, Elkins was actually being utilized in a more defensive role, showing how versatile he can be in a two-way role. Elkins displays an amazing hockey IQ and is able to see the ice extremely well, allowing him to make plays when he needs to. Elkins also brings an elite shot with him, which he is constantly improving on, making it even more deadly. Elkins has also been working hard on his skating, as he sees it as a thing that should always be improved on. Elkins is a natural leader both on and off the ice, and works at a summer athletic camp during the off season. Being the captain of his team, Elkins is constantly looking to make his teammates better in any way he can. Elkins is best comparable to someone like Steven Stamkos, being that he is not only a leader, but also has an amazing playmaking ability and scoring ability. While it is unfortunate that he missed the games he did, Elkins was able to attend a prospect camp with a bunch of Jr A players and performed very well, so he is extremely confident in his ability to make the next level and is up for the challenge. With the 2022 OHL draft coming up, expect to see Elkins be one of the higher drafted ETA players, where he could eventually develop into a highly effective two-way sniper, who can be placed on the teams special teams units, as well as being able to produce at high capacities in the top 6.
