One of the best two-way prospects in the 2021 OHL Draft, Josh Schmidt could grow into an intriguing prospect to watch. A complete all-around player, Schmidt's defensive game is far more developed than the average forward prospect. Schmidt is a fantastic defensive player at the center position, with great athleticism and a gritty mindset, Schmidt battles tirelessly across the ice towards getting possession of the puck. Schmidt is fantastic at applying pressure on the forecheck, as well as has incredible recovery speed on the back check. Schmidt's defensive skills coupled with his favorability towards physical contact makes him incredibly hard to play against for his opposing matchups. Schmidt is a great skater and has the size and strength to allow himself to lead the charge on the offensive rush, able to set up his linemates for great scoring opportunities in the process. Schmidt does need to work on his overall offensive skills to excel at the next level. While his skillset is none too shabby, he is not amazing at any offensive skills currently. Schmidt will need to continue developing these skills as well as utilizing his athleticism in the process to become a more polished player, and make a larger impact on his teams success. If Schmidt is able to continue progressing as a player he will become a great dual-threat center in no time and will become a valuable asset for any franchise down the road in his hockey career.
