Comparable to a player like Mitch Marner, left shooting Christopher Soares is definitely a player to have on a scouts radar. Last season, Soares was over a point per game, putting up 30 points (13G 17A) in 25 games with the Halton Hurricanes, cementing himself as the leading scorer on the team. Soares packs great skating, solid edge work and has a nose for the net. Along with this, Soares also brings a lot of leadership to a team, as he has been serving as the Hurricanes captain, where he brings a respectful approach in the dressing room, while also being really vocal. To quote him, Soares sees his coaches and teammates as a family. The biggest improving point for Soares is his decision making. Due to his ultra competitive attitude, he has been known to take the game into his own hands to try to pull off a win, however it must be noted that this isn’t necessarily selfish behavior, as it is more like a top player trying for one last shot at a win. Soares plays a very complete game, as he also brings a physical element to his game, making him a very mobile force on the ice that can either play the puck or the body, whether it’s in the corners or in open ice. Soares has a complete 200 foot game. Soares plays baseball at the elite level and is very good academically, but his main focus is his hockey at the end of the day. Regarding the OHL, the thought of being drafted is always running through his mind. Soares could most likely pawn out as an OHL two-way winger, playing a very sound defensive game, while packing a lot of offensive firepower. Soares is not a player that should be overlooked, and could most likely find himself going in the earlier rounds.
