Once, defender, Sam O’Reilly has made a name for himself as a gifted two-way forward. O’Reilly, one of the fastest skaters in the GTHL has a nose for the net and bangs home rebounds frequently. His shot is electric, once a defender his shot is very hard and accurate from everywhere in the zone. He also sees the ice very well with the excellent passing ability which combines to create easy goals for his teammates. O'Reilly uses his very good hands and size to get the puck into high danger areas and can create space for himself. O’Reilly forechecks very hard but is also never the last man back. In the corners, he checks hard and comes out with the puck. His speed on the backcheck is what makes him really dangerous. He can be out of a play but seemingly teleport back to be a threat on the backcheck. In his own zone as a once defender is very responsible however is still adjusting to positioning as a forward. He is great with his stick and uses it to take the puck away and get into passing lanes. He uses his size to break up odd-man rushes and will sacrifice his body to get into shooting lanes and block shots. Samuel is an effective member of his team's powerplay and uses his past defensive experience to be almost a third defender on the penalty kill. As Samuel continues to adjust to playing forward he looks to be a game-changer at the next level.
