The Prospects by Sports Illustrated Internship Program

Now accepting applications for roles in Sports Media, Sports Marketing, Event Management and Journalism.

Most young hockey players start out as forwards, the idea of scoring every game and being the hero is enticing. This was the case for Warren, now an offensive defender who has recently switched from forward to defence. Warren in the offensive zone is electric. From the blue line he cycles the puck well and has a cannon of a shot. He can fire home shots from anywhere in the zone and uses his excellent skating and agility to move around the zone and find better passing or shooting lanes. Warren is very smart and knows when to pinch and try to get the puck back but also knows when to hold up and defend the rush. Warren is still developing his defensive part of his game and adjusting to what his new roles are in his own zone however he is no liability and is effective. He forces the puck to the outside and uses his skating down low to come out with the puck. Warren is the quarterback for his teams first powerplay unit and runs set plays with ease. He finds open teammates and with an extra man uses his hands and skating to open even more room for his teammates. As Warren continues to gain experience as a defender he shows all signs of being an electric offensive defenseman at the next level.
