Francesco Dell’Elce is a puck-moving defenceman who coaches can rely upon at both ends of the ice. Dell’Elce plays a smart 2-way game and that is highlighted by his calm demeanour and vision. Dell’Elce sees the ice very well and does a great job passing the puck to his teammates. Whether it’s stretch passes or creating plays while quarterbacking the powerplay, Dell’Elce is a reliable presence in the offensive zone. He has a decent shot which has power but would benefit from improving his shooting accuracy. His skating abilities are the Toronto Marlboros alternate captains biggest asset. He can turn on the jets to reach full speed in just a few steps and uses this to his advantage when trying to exit the zone with the puck on his stick or to join the rush. Francesco Dell’Elce’s skating strength consists of more than just his speed. He has a strong skating technique that is also very unique. He relies heavily on his edges and lateral movement to change directions quickly and create space for himself in the offensive zone as well as quickly getting himself into a defensive position on the transition. At 6’1, Dell’Elce stands tall on the ice and uses his long reach to poke pucks away to break up scoring chances. While the Marlboros defenceman can be an effective physical presence, scouts would like to see him use his size to his advantage more often to become even tougher to beat in board battles.
