Amongst some of the defensemen selected for the GTHL Top Prospects game, Mason Taylor will likely be one of the top defensemen to be drafted at the 2022 OHL draft. Taylor is an extremely speedy defenseman, and uses his smaller size to be more shifty and evasive when he is skating with the puck. This couples well with Taylor’s ability to play a very creative and smart style of game, which can see him making amazing setups for his teammates. This has helped Taylor find a comparable in Cale Makar, who is also a smaller player that plays a fast and creative style of game. Being able to follow a similar style to what he does right now will be the ideal path for Taylor as he chases the OHL, as he could really be a true offensive defenseman, who can use his smooth and speedy skating, along with his creativity to generate a ton of offense in both 5 on 5 and power play situations. However, due to his smaller stature, Taylor could really benefit from working to bulk up and put on some additional weight moving forward, which would help him become a more difficult player to knock off the puck once he gets it. Any OHL team would love to have him.
