One of Barrie’s top defensemen, right shooting Declan Beggs, is a solid offensive minded defender. Serving as a top 4 defenseman on Barrie, Beggs is an extremely mobile player, and utilizes this to play a very offensive game, and can be seen quite normally jumping into the play. Despite having great offensive talent, Beggs has also displayed excellent defensive capabilities as well, using his high speeds to get back into a defensive position and play a strong game in both ends. Beggs us very good at figuring out how to avoid forecheckers and the pressure that they bring, and is capable of transitioning well from the defensive to offensive game, helping him in both zones tremendously. At the OHL level, Beggs could really find himself a niche if he can crack a roster, being able to play a strong two way game, which is a highly sought after style of defenseman, not to mention he is a right shot, which ups his value even more. Even though it’s still way too soon to tell, Beggs could see himself going sometime around the mid rounds. Only time will tell, but Beggs should start finding himself on some radars very soon.
