Right handed defenders are valuable in hockey. They are a key part of any successful team and are relied upon to produce both offensively and defensively. Hudson Gill matches this description perfectly, known to do all the little things right and play a responsible game in all three zones, he is what every successful team needs. Hudson, a player who plays like a pro already at just 14, is very good in his own zone. When he is on the ice he makes a noticeable difference in shutting down opponents. He outworks them down low, he forces the play to the outside and doesn’t let the puck get to the slot. When he has the puck in his own zone he has wonderful zone exits. He finds next level breakout passes that most defenders don’t see and if he doesn’t like any of his options, won’t force a play but rather regroups and tries again. In the offensive zone he finds holes in coverage and puts the puck on his teammates stick, seemingly without breaking a sweat. He has an above average shot that he keeps low looking for deflections and can time up a one-timer with ease. Hudson plays on the first penalty kill and quarterbacks his team's first powerplay as well. He sets up plays and uses his vision to dominate on the man advantage. Hudson is incredibly hard working with very few places he needs to work on. He is continuing to get stronger and add some silky skill to his game but is a very well rounded player every team would benefit from. Hudson Gill is a name to watch come draft day and whoever gets him is getting a very talented player with tons of upside.
