Defensive defencemen are very valuable to a team. Someone to stay back while their offensive partner pinches, these players are often the key part of any offensive player's success, Jaden Schiell is exactly that. Jaden is a very strong defender and contains attackers very well. He uses his elite level skating to force the play outside and shut down opponents chances. He is very strong in one on one scenarios, having great gap control and stick positioning. In his own zone he can be found battling for pucks in dirty areas and cleaning out the puck from high danger spots. He sacrifices his body to get in front of shots when he needs to and reads the play to get into passing and shooting lanes. Jaden loves to use his skating to jump into the rush when he needs to and can even put up a few points when doing so. He is quick in transition and makes great first passes to breaking out forwards. He is a very calm player who doesn’t let anything impact his game and plays with a sense of calm, something most young defenders can’t claim. Jaden shows phenomenal athleticism, his combine testing showed very high lower body metrics which is very important to this smooth and powerful skater. Jaden is very dedicated to perfecting his craft, he understands that he needs to work on the offensive side of his game in order to make the jump to the next level. He is actively working on improving his stick handling and puck skills which will significantly improve his entire offensive toolbox. He is dedicated to getting stronger and better both on and off the ice. Attending personal workout sessions and skill camps he is very coachable and seen as a coach's dream. He maintains a healthy diet unlike kost young guys and if he continues to work hard it is without a doubt he will easily transition to the next level.
