Ohio AAA Blue Jackets
Left shot defenseman, Jake Struck, is the Blue Jackets' number 1 defender. Due to a number of injuries that the team has sustained, Struck has had the opportunity to play upfront on many occasions and looked comfortable each time he was there. This works very well for Struck, as he has a very offensive mindset. He has great vision and is a defender who can jump into the rush easily. Struck is a very smart decision-maker, and in his offtime, serves as the running back on his football team, so he is great for looking for space and finding openings. Struck has the ability to catch a winger isn’t necessarily paying attention, and can squirm his way past and get himself into the offensive zone fairly easily. He is a very outgoing player and is one of the leaders in the team's dressing room. The big thing Struck needs to work on is his tape-to-tape passing, and being able to make that crisp first pass. If this is worked on, Struck could develop into a pretty good offensive defenseman if he so chooses to sign with his OHL club. If any OHL team is looking for a smart, offensive defenseman, Struck may be the player that they could take a look at.
