Left shooting forward, Lucas van Vliet, is one of the top forwards in the USA for the 2022 OHL draft. He is described as being simply elite for the age group and probably the most dynamic American player available. He plays the game with extreme poise with the puck, and has an elite shot and scoring touch. Along with this, van Vliet is a very creative playmaker as well, and is very capable of creating chances for his teammates in the offensive zone, which has helped him become his teams top point getter. Van Vliet is also a very strong skater, which aids him on the offensive side of the game, where he can use that to his advantage to blow by the opposition and either shoot, or surprise someone with a pass. He is a hard player to figure out. Van Vliet is currently being encouraged to improve on all the aspects of his game, and further hone his skills as the draft approaches. Van Vliet is a player in that short list of American players who can see themselves going higher than most, and can possibly see himself going in one of the earlier rounds. OHL wise, he could utilize his current playstyle to become a very deceptive forward, that can either go for the goal, or surprise the opposition with a sneaky pass. Only time will tell, but Lucas van Vleit is definitely a player that should be getting looks.
